Free from Lonely

Something that I’m sure we have all felt and experienced at some point in our life’s. In a crowded room, or on a date with someone. Yes! Loneliness can find you anywhere and while you are in the company of anyone! How? Webster’s dictionary says that the meaning of loneliness is “not being frequented by human beings.” This can’t be an accurate definition! I don’t know about anyone else, but I have been in a room with my husband and surrounded by family and have still felt the bitter cold grip of “lonely”. As I’ve spent more and more time thinking and talking to people who battle depression because of loneliness, God spoke to me! Loneliness has nothing to do with who I’m surrounded by, my loneliness is caused by my focus being fixated on feelings! Feelings are valid but feelings are never facts! Feelings are fickle and fleeting! When I’m feeling lonely, it’s because I’m fixated on myself and my momentary emptiness! What if all of this depressed and lonely feelings could be fixed by one simple move?

Then it hit me in between the eyes! God smacked me over the head! It’s as simple as lifting up my eyes! If I’m fixated on Him, His glory, His strength, His presence, and His promises…I can’t feel lonely! It’s impossible!! When I focus my attention on Him, I have no time for my feelings. Feelings are inconsistent but Jesus is a rock! He remains unchanged!

This isn’t to say that I don’t still have my feelings of being alone, but when the devil starts to plant lies in my mind that trigger my emotions, I start claiming the promises and Goodness of my God!

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10

I encourage you to build your self esteem upon the rock of Christ! His opinion of you and His presence with you is something you can take to the bank! A self esteem and reliance on the world to fill empty voids doesn’t work. People’s opinions change at the drop of a hat! Trends are always circulating and you will spend your life chasing after something that you will never catch. I encourage you to lean on a God when you feel alone, knowing that He has the strength to keep you standing!
